Cathy Youngling: California Real Estate & Homes - Marin County

Tiburon/Belvedere Links

Tiburon is the Spanish word for shark. You might think, looking over Raccoon Straits to Angel Island, the Spanish might have spotted a shark or two in the bay waters. Actually the waters that surround Tiburon peninsula are relatively safe. Here you will see some of the most and least competitive of sailing races in the bay. Here also you will find some of California’s finest residences.

Tiburon is known for its outstanding views. On the west side of the peninsula you can have bold views of Mount Tamalpais, Sausalito, Belvedere and Corithian Islands and San Francisco. From the East the views are out over San Pablo Bay and out toward San Rafael and the east bay. Often Realtors use the word panoramic to describe views, here is one place where it actually may be true with 360 degree views possible on the ridge tops.

Belvedere is an established community of exclusive homes. Some of these homes are situated around its lagoon. Originally this lagoon had houseboats ringing it, where the wealthy of San Francisco would come to escape the hustle and bustle of the city. Some of these boats were move inland to create Tiburon’s Arc Row (now shops and restaurants).

On Belvedere you will find many stately homes some clinging to the sides of the hill, some are perched over the beach below, and a few on the crest of the island. Tiburon has a variety of homes, including some apartments, condos and tract homes. Many are newer larger estates. Estates in Belvedere and Tiburon can be priced in excess of $20,000,000.

The Reed School district is one that has performed well over the years and been a draw for many families relocating to Marin.

There are wonderful bike, hike and skate trails throughout Tiburon; some follow the waterside, some climb the ridge top. Come discover the magic of the Tiburon peninsula, visit Angel Island by hopping a Ferry in downtown Tiburon, take a boat over and anchor off Paradise Park. You will soon discover why so many people dream of living here.
