Funky in a good way, that is how I describe Fairfax. This is the last of the Central Marin towns before Sir Francis Drake Blvd. makes its way in to what is considered West Marin.
Environmentally conscious, politically active, Fairfax has a reputation for being progressive. The parking enforcement vehicles are electric, the trees are protected.
Downtown you will find a potpourri of stores and restaurants; some that remind you of the 60’s some of today. The people who you see here will be varied as well, some funky folk, next to Mr. Yuppie and his wife.
Fairfax is a Mountain Biker’s Nirvana. It is at the base of many of Marin’s best rides. If you are driving on four wheels, and not two you should definitely try driving one of the most magical roads anywhere, the Fairfax-Bolinas Road.
Homes are varied here between, small cottages, tract homes and upscale newer craftsmen homes. Great care has been taken in the Fairfax planning department to control growth and its impact on the environment.
The weather here in summer is cool in the morning and hot in the afternoons. Just right for jumping on the bike and seeing why this area is so funky and fabulous!
