This county is truly blessed. The parks here are not just a matter of local pride, but are National treasures. Living here it is hard to see it all. Each area has its own unique character.
From the National Park land around Point Rees Seashore, there are beaches, waterfalls, forest, herds of elk, and pastorial landscape. At Mt Tamalpais there are traces of an old airforce base, an outdoor theater, towering Redwoods and babbling brooks. Some of the country’s best known mountain biking trails are found here. In fact Mountain Biking was inventing on the slopes of Mt. Tam.
The Golden Gate National Recreation Area features outstanding views of San Francisco, a lighthouse, a marine mammal rescue center, old army bunkers and windswept cypress. Trails lead from one discovery to another.
China Camp State Park has overnight camping and bayside history. There are marsh and tideland birds and animals to observe. Samuel P. Taylor State Park is rich in romantic Redwoods, streams and day and night camping areas. This was the location of the filming of “The Return of the Jedi”, and the home of the Ewoks.
Regional parks include beaches, and picnic areas. Some with tennis and swimming facilities. There are also several off leash dog parks, where Fido can run and run. Follow the links provided to find out more about these and other Marin parks.
